Question: Do Allergens Worsen Eczema?

Answer: Yes, allergens can often make your eczema worse by triggering immune system responses that lead to inflammation.

After a person with eczema comes into contact with something they are allergic to, their skin is the first thing that will react negatively, and it can sometimes cause a serious flare-up.

I remember my eczema always flaring up every time I came into contact with the things that I was allergic to. To make things even worse, I had basically every allergy imaginable.

For years, I lived in anxiety trying to avoid everything that could be a trigger. I thought that I could never be healthy and normal, but now, years later, I am completely eczema- and allergy-free, and I wish I had known sooner not to focus on allergens and triggers but to focus on my gut, which controls the immune system.

The most important thing you have to know is that allergens themselves are not a problem; the way your body reacts is a problem. So instead of focusing on avoiding allergens your whole life, you should focus on fixing your gut. If your gut is damaged and inflamed, then your skin will be damaged and inflamed too, and if your gut is healthy, then your skin will be healthy as well.
